when heard Victoria Beckham was designing a handbag collection, our first thought was: “Think Birken-esque bags paired with interesting patterns or flashier hardware.” As it turns out, our prediction wasn’t too far off.
Via The Moment comes this sneak peak at her collection, which retails from $1,800-$13,950 — a range that can also be described as Hermes-esque prices. (Unless we can get sued for copyright infringement for saying that. In which case, it can be described as “expensive.”)
But while we predicted patterns and bold hardware, Beckham’s bags — which she co-designed with go-to accessories designer and consultant Kate Hillier — are incredibly modern and minimalist, almost deceptively so. The bags have that boxy vintage shape so coveted by Kelly bag lovers everywhere, but are decidedly and, more importantly, discreetly 2011.
The industry has spent a the last couple years mourning the death of the “It Bag” — and while Beckham’s bags will certainly be coveted, it’s their understated luxury that will make them sell, both despite and in spite of their price tags.
