New Chanel Ambassador, Blake Lively Is Karl’s Dream Girl

Though one would be hard pressed to describe Blake Lively’s life as anything but awesome, the Gossip Girl star’s good fortune has officially jumped the shark. Today, WWD confirms month-old rumors that Karl Lagerfeld had tapped Lively to be the new face of Chanel’s Mademoiselle handbag collection. And while that’s a lovely appointment in and of itself, let’s not leave out that in the Chanel world Lively isn’t just a face, she’s an “Official Ambassador.” Also: “an American Dream Girl” and “Cinderella.”
Lively’s new gig at the French fashion house came about after Anna Wintour introduced her to Lagerfeld at dinner in Paris during last summer’s Couture shows. After the dinner, Lagerfeld gave her a private preview of the set for his show — scheduled for the next morning — the set for which, you may remember, featured a 40-foot golden lion. Lively, ever adorable, snapped a photo. “I took a photo of him so that I would never forget that moment,” she told WWD. “Never did I think six months later he would be photographing me.”
And lest you think Lively is under qualified for her new ambassadorial position (though, considering the qualifications include being attractive and marketable, we’re pretty sure that would be impossible), she may just be the best darn spokesperson we’ve ever seen. Check out these soundbites.
On being photographed at Chanel’s famed Rue Cambon headquarters:

“How did Cinderella feel when she slipped on the glass slipper? How did Snow White feel when she met her Prince Charming? A dream come true is an understatement. I can say that I feel like the happiest, luckiest girl around.”

On what the Chanel brand stands for:
“It is timeless, chic, graceful, intelligent, iconic and ever relevant.”
On the Mademoiselle bag, specifically:
“Though I am the face of it, I will carry it like every girl. I will always feel it’s more than just a purse. It’s a quilted case full of lipstick, love letters and the dreams and possibilities that I have always felt every time I see that beautiful ‘CC.’ ”
