It’s not uncommon for celebrities to sell exclusive wedding or baby photo rights to magazines for major dough. But even when the stars give the money to charity, the idea of selling such special pictures always seems, well, a bit tacky. Alas, Nicole Richie is the latest celeb to be the subject of wedding photo drama.
For the record, we totally thought Nicole and Joel Madden were married already! In actuality, the longtime couple is set to exchange vows today. The wedding is going down at Lionel Richie’s beautiful Beverly Hills estate, and we assume their cute kids will be partaking in the ceremony. And speaking of their tiny tots, the first pictures of daughter Harlow were reportedly sold to People for $1 million just two years ago — and the money went straight into the Richie-Madden clan’s bank account.
It looks like Nicole is again trying to make an easy buck by selling her wedding photos. While her reps claim she plans to donate the money, the details surrounding the photo sale sound less than charitable. According to Page Six, “there was frantic negotiating to land Nicole Richie a $100,000 exclusive magazine deal ahead of her big wedding.” It’s interesting to note that this is 10% of what Harlow’s baby pics sold for. And “frantic negotiating”? We just don’t think that would happen if the money was indeed going to charity.
Nicole allegedly accepted a “cover chip” bid from OK! (which would land her a small picture on the cover and a short story inside the mag), but then decided to see if People would give her a full cover story. Also, apparently the fact that Kim Kardashian and Christina Aguilera bailed made things more difficult when it came to striking a deal. Obviously, Richie’s reps deny all of this
