From edgy and bold on-screen to soft and sexy off-screen, Natalie Portman knows how to do it all.
And at last night's New York City premiere of "Black Swan," the leading actress looked gorgeous with full-bodied wavy hair as she walked the red carpet.
The hairdo was designed by her stylist John D., who was tempted to do an elegant updo, but succumbed to the glamour of her black Dior off-the-shoulder dress and created a look that accented its sensuous silhouette.
"The hair was beautiful and helped balance the total look," said John D., "especially since the bottom of the dress was so full."
To get her locks looking perfect, he started with argan oil-infused MoroccanOil Hydrating Styling Cream then blow dried the hair smooth using a round brush to give it some oomph at the roots.
Portman has naturally curly hair and since she's constantly getting her hair done for events it can easily dry out, said John D. So, a styling cream that provided extra hydration was important to add moisture, smooth the cuticle, and get rid of any frizz.
He then used a one-inch curling iron, and starting at the back of her head, curled round sections all over. In the front, he curled the hair away from her face.
To finish, MoroccanOil Luminous Hairspray was used for extra softness and hold. "It was raining in New York and I wanted to make absolutely sure the body stayed," said John D.
His final trick of the trade? Spraying a paddle brush with hairspray and using it to separate and loosen the hair. This tames the curls at the same time.
