Vogue Paris 2012 February Cover, Carine Roitfeld Really, Really Likes Lara Stone...

The end is near. Not the literal end, of course, but the end of Carine Roitfeld’s tenure as redactrice en chef de Vogue Paris. And while many are looking forward to what Emmanuelle Alt will do with the magazine when she inherits its throne, we’re more concerned about the legacy Roitfeld will leave at the magazine. If an editor is only as good as her last cover, what does Roitfeld’s second to last cover say about where her and her magazine?
More than anything, it says she really likes Lara Stone. The model has been on two covers of this magazine in about four months, a feat only eclipsed by Blake Lively’s two covers of American Vogue (and its style icons booklet) last year. The last one was the gorgeous and controversial (and hugely important) 90th anniversary cover in October. Is Roitfeld just doing what she wants now that she can see the light at the end of the glamorous tunnel she’s lived in for a decade? Well, wouldn’t you?
The cover promises a glimpse at Colin Firth in private, everything you need for beautiful skin and the 65 best looks of the summer. It’s beautiful, but its significance as a signal of the end of an era is preventing us from passing judgement on it<<
