Zac Posen has been looking at the work of the interior designer Madeleine Castaing who is the subject of a lush tome, The World of Madeleine Castaing, from Rizzoli. This was evident in upholstery-inspired fabrics, bits of fringe and Roman-shade like draping of the some of the more artfully engineered pieces that Posen turned out for Pre-Fall. (A laser cut leather dress with bouclé inserts cuts a bombshell figure.) But another muse made a cameo appearance in the collection: Tina Turner, the designer’s 7 year-old poodle. That is her face, in silhouette, on the sweater that anchors one of our favorite looks.

Surprise, surprise but there was no shortage of great coats in Christopher Bailey’s Pre-Fall Collection for Burberry Prorsum. The classic trench was updated in a butter soft napa leather, or with a slight bell shape at the cuff and hem. A pea coat came fitted with a mantle of fox fur. But we have our eye on this military coat, with its double truck of buttons and skirt rabbit fur skirt that as the curly texture of astrakhan.

When we stopped in to see Narciso Rodriguez late last week, the designer already had holiday — as in vacation, not the season — on the brain. (He’s off to the jungles of Brazil, where he’s going to commune with the beasts and not think about clothes.) The break is well deserved. He put a lot of himself into the details of his pre-fall collection which includes plenty of his signature silhouette-enhancing dresses and this leather coat with a glovelike fit and detachable fur collar. “I wanted the clothes to be as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside,” he said.
